Even though he regularly travels to other regions of Brazil, and two or three times a year to healing events abroad, the medium Joao’s true basis, his chosen energy field, is the „House of the Holy Ignatius of Loyola“. It is situated in the small provincial town of Abadiania, roughly 120 kilometres from the capital. The nearest larger town is Anapolis, about 25 kilometres away. Here the healer lives with his family. In the same way as the medium Joao (whose legal name is Joao Teixeira de Faria) is lovingly and respectfully refered to as Joao de Deus (John of God), people call the Casa the ‚spiritual clinic’ or ‚spiritual hospital’. Staying with this image, then the 36 entities, who work through the healing medium, are ‚spirit doctors’. Some of them were also in their last earthly incarnation doctors or surgeons. Now they carry on their work in the spiritual sphere – just in another form and with other means. This can be observed when surgical operations are performed in the Casa de Dom Inacio. For good reasons these operations are very rare, 99% of the operations prescribed are of a so-called invisible or spiritual nature.
This is not a decision from the entities or medium Joao, but depends on the person who is having the operation; those who expressly want a visible operation receive one. However, comparatively few people want to have a physical operation as, at first sight, they appear to be alarming. Particularly the two most frequent operations seem to be so drastic that one expects the patient to scream in pain. One example: When ‚Joao-in-entity’ thrusts a scissor-like instrument, 10cm in length, into the nose of a patient and twists it round and round. Just watching gives one goose pimples. Or when he scratches a knife across the eyeball of the person seeking a cure. Sometimes he cuts into a person’s stomach or chest, puts in fingers that, just before, have shaken hands with hundreds of people inside and one minute later he sews up the wound with two stitches and declares the operation over.

A special feature of the work in the Casa is the inclusion of the people seeking a cure in their own healing process, and those of the other visitors. People who stay for several days or weeks in Abadiania, and who regularly frequent the Casa, spend part of their time in prayer and meditation in the ‚Flow Rooms’, the rooms through which the lines move en route to Joao de Deus. The medial work helps to raise the energy in these rooms and this in turn supports the healing work of medium Joao and the spirits.
